Bella Joe Designs: Capturing the Turquoise Magic of the Whitsundays in Resin

The spectacular colours of the Whitsunday water inspired Lee-Anne to begin her latest craft obsession: resin art.

Starting as a hobby over 20 years ago, Bella Joe Designs began to take its current form when Lee-Anne moved to Airlie Beach three years ago.

Now, with the help of her kindred craft spirit Deb, they are an enthusiastic team, creating until dementia sets in, as their business cards playfully claim.

Their stall is now a permanent fixture at the Cruise Ship Markets, a perfect fit after their early success with personalised gifts.

They have mastered the art of fast, personalised craft: thanks to a battery pack, they can personalise keychains on the day in a short five-minute turnaround, selling up to 60 a day.

The entire Whitsunday Region acts as their colour chart and inspiration. The see-through turquoise waters of Whitehaven, the foreshore colours, and the lush sugarcane greenery all influence their work.

They treat every item like a blank canvas, carefully emulating the region in every piece, even using locally sourced shells.

From fridge magnets to keychains, Lee-Anne and Deb’s dedication to capturing the beauty of their local surroundings ensures visitors take home a tangible piece of the Whitsundays.
