The Heart of the Whitsundays: Handcrafted Treasures from Airlie Beach Creations By Jen

A love for yarn, passed down through generations, is the thread that runs through the work of Fibre Artist Jenny Menzel of Airlie Beach Creations By Jen.

For over 40 years, Jenny has been transforming that love, which began with her granny’s lessons in crochet and knitting, into beautiful, unique textile art.

Every piece sold at her stall at the Airlie Beach Markets is lovingly handmade right there in Airlie Beach.

Her creations—from cozy winter coats to little summer tops, and from playful keyrings to cherished toys—are truly one-of-a-kind, thanks to her collection of unusual yarns and cottons gathered over many years.

Jenny’s artistry has given her the opportunity to spread joy both locally and globally.

Her adorable Worry Bears have become companions for anxious children starting school or heading to camp. Her Gnomes are carried home by delighted cruise ship passengers and visitors from around the world, and locals love her summer wear for festivals.

Jenny values the wonderful new friendships she’s made with fellow stallholders, but the greatest reward is knowing she has made so many customers happy.

As an homage to her coastal home, Jenny specialises in unique souvenirs for cruise ship guests, creating colourful crocheted sea creatures like turtles, octopuses, and mermaids.

These handmade treasures ensure that a piece of the beautiful coastal town and the spirit of the Whitsundays travels with every visitor.
