Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Chamber going to close the markets?
No. The Chamber is committed to building a sustainable and accountable Cruise Day Market that remains a valued asset for the whole community.
Is the Chamber going to remove current stallholders and make it exclusively for Airlie Beach traders?
No. The priority is to support and promote current stallholders. Additional features/opportunities may be introduced based on stallholder feedback.
Will the Chamber make the markets cashless?
No. The markets will maintain the option for stallholders to pay stall fees and trade in cash. The Chamber does not have the right to enforce cashless payments on individual stallholders or businesses.
Will the Chamber move the markets to another location?
It is business as usual for the foreseeable future. We have the licence to run the markets in the current location until October 2026. Only in consultation with stallholders, and with majority support, will we further explore the benefits of a move.
The Council’s Airlie Beach Masterplan has a dedicated market area. Will we be moving there?
Unsure. The Masterplan is yet to be approved by Council, funded, or a timeline of works provided. The Chamber is of the view that the development of the new market space – and if the cruise ship markets what to utilise it – is at least 2-years away.
When can not-for-profits apply to participate in the market or for sponsorship generated by market revenue?
The Chamber will make announcements in early 2026 regarding opportunities.
Can stallholders become members of the Chamber?
Yes. We are looking to introduce a new and optional Chamber Market Member offer in 2026 that will provide exclusive access to support services, discounted stall rates, and additional promotional opportunities for stallholders.
